Central axis of Grozny is Putin Avenue which gradually turns into Akhmad-Hadji Kadyrov Avenue. This symbolic transition marked by a barely noticeable turn, thereby main sights of the city - a high-rise complex "Grozny City" and a huge mosque "Heart of Chechnya" - look like as valid architectural dominants. So Putin Avenue visually goes out between skyscrapers, and the mosque took the place of the crown of Akhmad-Hadji Kadyrov Avenue. I don't know this effect is the result of of urban planning policy or this is random, I can only guess. But the street view with the 62-meter minarets makes a strong impression on the tourists who come to Grozny.
Mosque "Heart of Chechnya" was built 7 years ago by the Turks on the basis of the architecture of the Sultan Ahmed Mosque in Istanbul. Chechen mosque called the largest in Europe, although the main indicators of "Heart of Chechnya", such as capacity, area, size and so on, are inferior Blue Mosque indicators. And in general, Chechnya is not Europe. But to give loud status of this Grozny landmark, Chechens add 14 hectares of adjoining park (Islamic complex) to total area of the mosque . Someday I'll tell about their love of superlatives and any kind leading, but still it must be admitted, the pride of the Chechens is not unfounded.
Перед входом в мечеть:
I had never been inside the Muslim prayer buildings except Hagia Sophia that once been serving as a mosque. Despite this, the mosque "Heart of Chechnya" for me is one of the most memorable places in Russia. The exterior is an elegant and well-groomed with a marble courtyard, behind the door there is a huge interior spaces, decorated with detailed ornaments and careful calligraphy, covered with rugs and hidden in some noble twilight. I am aware that it is a religious building and the effect, that it is intended to produce a visitor, has religious connotations, but even a convinced atheist is a fool, if he allows his convictions overshadow objective aesthetic beauty of the interiors. Sometime the Italian Catholic churches impressed me like this mosque.
